The Heritage of
David Crowley Furniture.
David Crowley Furniture is a seventh generation business, with its heritage founded in the skills, knowledge and understanding of our craft that have been handed down from father to son since the 1850s. There is an authenticity to our work unmatched by others. Based on the Copper Coast in Co. Waterford, Ireland, the quaintness of our rural base allows us a freedom to work, craft and create without any overwhelming busyness from a surrounding city or industrial centre. That freedom gives balance to our work and evokes a sense of calmness and quiet luxury in every piece we create.
Our Story
David Crowley Furniture, as it exists today, was established in 1980 by David Crowley Snr. But, the exceptional skills and craftsmanship upon which the business and its reputation is built were acquired through seven generations of family craftsmen who came before him.
In the company’s early years, David Crowley was renowned for creating beautiful, one-off pieces of highly-crafted occasional furniture which piqued interest from private and corporate clients, one of which was Waterford City Council. Their offices were located in the historic Port of Waterford Company Building, which had been built in 1785 to the designs of Waterford’s famous Georgian architect John Roberts, and needed to be restored with integrity and fine craftsmanship. Waterford City Council commissioned David Crowley Snr. to redesign the chamber and reproduce its original Georgian furniture. The exquisite workmanship not only earned him great acclaim among industry peers, but the renovation project has won many prestigious awards including a ‘Conservation and Original Drawing’ award from the Irish Georgian Society.
Following this acclaim and success, David Crowley Snr. was continuously commissioned for conservation and renovation projects for private and commercial spaces across Ireland and he continued to win awards for his work. One of the most notable award-winning projects, which was carried out in collaboration with a naval architect, involved the installation of a super-yacht design into a guest apartment of a luxury home overlooking Crosshaven Bay in Co. Cork. This project garnered acclaim world-wide and was awarded for ‘Best Fit-Out’ at that year’s Irish Joinery Awards. Today, David Crowley Furniture Limited is headed up by David Crowley Jnr., a master-craftsman in woodwork and cabinet making, who also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Interior Architecture and Design from Griffith College Dublin.
Since 2008, David Crowley Furniture has put significant focus on exporting their work to capitalise on the growing global market, beginning with customers in the UK and France. Since then, the company has completed projects in Chelsea, Kensington and Westminster in London, on a private island resort in Scotland and in several luxury private residences in Paris.
